Ok, so you’ve been shopping around (or you just started) and you may have noticed a wide variety of prices when it comes to a Houston headshot.
A professional headshot can vary anywhere from $200 dollars for a session to $1000 per 1/2 hour of shooting. It really is going to depend on the availability of the photographer and their experience.
So before you get going, here are a few things to keep in mind for pricing.
- Starting Price - $199
- Images - vary from $65/image to $199/image
- Headshot Mini's - $99
Basic Headshot Pricing
You can get a headshot for free but, you know how the saying goes, you get what you pay for. For starters, the average price for a headshot around Houston will start around $199 for the session only. You should expect to purchase images afterwards from a range of $65/image – $199/image.
If you are looking for the top end scale for a headshot, some of the top headshot photographers in the U.S. will charge $1000 per 1/2 hour for a session + images. If you’re looking for someone in that price range, go seek out Peter Hurley in New York. He has been teaching headshot photographers across the U.S. on his methods for headshots, including myself.
You may run across $99 mini’s on occasion which are great on the wallet but, many people will need the extra time for a decent headshot. Headshot Mini’s are usually a 10-15 minute session which, is a great cost saving way to get a quick headshot.
Unless you are in a hurry, with the shortened time in a mini, even an experienced professional will need more time to really pull out the best headshot for you.
I can get a great headshot knocked out in that time frame with my experience but if you are looking for your BEST headshot, I’d recommend an hour long headshot session.
If you are looking for a Headshot mini, I do them on occasion, so please contact us if you are looking for more information.
How Many Images Will You Need?
It isn’t uncommon for people to purchase multiple images after a headshot session. Make sure to ask what the headshot photographer has for a minimum order as often times, they will have packages for multiple images that you may not even need.
Between Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and websites, it’s easier to come home with multiple images to maintain a consistent brand for you to use across all of your platforms.
Make sure you get plenty of time for your headshot. Often, we see people offering 15 minute sessions and that works great for someone who is experienced and has taken multiple headshots throughout their career. If you’re just saving on cost though, you just lost out on a much better headshot than what you could have had.
How Much Time Should I Expect for My Headshot
Make sure you get plenty of time for your headshot. Often, we see people offering 15 minute sessions and that works great for someone who is experienced and has taken multiple headshots throughout their career. These aren’t for individuals who are camera shy and HIGHLY recommend you stay away from them.
Shorter sessions are perfect for individuals who are used to being in front of the camera or have had multiple professional headshots and are relaxed.
It often takes much longer for an individual to relax in front of a camera. We recommend an hour session for a majority of people and if you are really camera shy, you may need a 2-3 hour session.
Additional Considerations for Costs of Headshots
A majority of these fees will only apply to on-location and group headshots but make sure you are aware of everything that is included in your pricing before you book your photographer.
Other items that can increase the costs of headshots that need to be considered are additional setup fees for multiple looks while on location. There can also be additional travel, gallery, renaming or additional editing fees as well.
